The
Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM) celebrated with
the United Church of Christ at the 26th General Synod held
in Hartford, Connecticut in June, 2007.
The Rev. Marlene Helgemo, Interim Executive Director
of CAIM and Pastor of All Nations Church in Minneapolis, participated
in the worship service Monday evening.
Toni
Buffalo, Trevon Buffalo, Adrian Maxey and Rosemary McCombs
Maxey led the COREM procession.
Norman
(Jack) Jackson processed with the General Synod Moderators.
Presentations
and a luncheon for Honored Laywomen were given to Hattie
Walker of Ho-Cak United Church of Christ and Toni Buffalo
of Dakota Association. They were among
more than 100 UCC women who were honored.

The
Women in Ministry luncheon honored the first women ordained
among people of color. Rosemary McCombs Maxey was recognized
as the first American Indian woman ordained in the UCC.
CAIM
sponsored and lead a workshop on Land Tenure: Ownership and
Use. Toni Buffalo moderated the workshop.
The
CAIM booth is a “must see” happening place in
the Exhibit Hall of General Synod. Winifred and Jerry
Boub and Judith Andrews made good use of their time visiting
with people and selling crafts made by American Indians.
For
the CAIM family, making friends and relations is all a part
of the gift of General Synod.

The Sunday afternoon Worship and Celebration involved
all of the CAIM attendees. Winifred Boub, Truman
Bobtail Bear, and Judith Andrews led the procession following
the church officers and conference ministers.
Bernice Blackdeer was with the board of Justice and
Witness Ministries and Hattie Walker processed with the
board for Office of General Ministries.
